Boris Becker has been named the brand spokesman for Anakena Wines from Chile by brand owner Accolade. He is doing tennis exhibitions along with the ATP Tennis Tour.

From December 2016 through Super Bowl 2017 Budweiser is airing a commercial with Actress Helen Mirren urging viewers to “drink responsibly.”

 

Former hockey player and LA Kings broadcaster, Jim Fox and his wife Susie, have been making and selling wines with friend, Dean Nucich since 2011. Their wines are named Patine', which means “to have skated” in French. The wines are made by Envy Wines of Napa.

 

Wayne Gretsky will open Wayne Gretsky Estates this Spring. Offerings will be red, white, and ice wine from Niagara-on-the-lake, Ontario; Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon from Okanagan, British Columbia; Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay from Sonoma; and Wayne Gretsky No.99 Canadian Whiskey.

 

Rap star, Ludacris is opening a restaurant and bar in Atlanta's International Airport called Chicken and Beer. Luda (as he is known to fans) says this is the dream that came from a song on his third album.

 

Olympic Champion Usain Bolt has been named CEO of G.H. Mumm. That's the new post of Chief Entertainment Officer. In this position Bolt will travel the world encouraging people to find new ways to celebrate with Mumm Champagne. Bolt, the world's fastest human, is famous for winning the 100 meter, 200 meter, and 4X100 meter relay at three Olympic Games.

Queen Elizabeth has joined the British Sparkling Wine industry. The wine is made from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Petit Meunier grapes grown on her Windsor Great Park Estate. The vines were planted in 2011 and the vineyards have been supervised by the Duke of Edinburgh. The first 3,000 bottles were sold out at 35 a bottle within days. Wine grapes have been grown at the estate by English monarchs since the 12th century.

 

British reggae group, UB40, has contracted with a winery to bottle Red Red Wine, named for their 1983 hit. It's a Bordeaux Superieur blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. It will “make you feel so fine.”

 

Frontman Roger Daltrey of The Who is selling Champagne Cuvee Roger Daltrey to celebrate the band's 50th anniversary. The Champagne is bottled by Charles Orban. Profits go to Teen Cancer America, the charity founded by Daltrey and fellow band member Pete Townshend. The Orban family has been growing grapes since 1770 and making wine since 1950. The Champagne sells for $125 and a matching pewter ice bucket numbered in a limited edition is $899.

 

Emilio Estevez has planted his one acre property in Malibu with wine grapes. The 800 vines cover “every square inch” except for the house, the pool, and the bocce court.

 

John Lasseter, the Chief Animator at Pixar Studios, lives at his vineyard in Sonoma, where he and his wife, Nancy, make Zinfandel, Syrah, and a number of red, white, and rose' blends. The wines range in price from $43 to $119.

 

Singer, Rick Astley, is working with the Mikkeller Brewery in Copenhagen, Denmark to create his own beer. It will be a fruity flavored Pilsner. He says the biggest problem is picking a name for it.

 

Von Miller, MVP of of Superbowl 50, gave bottles of his The Setting 2014 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon to every player in the NFC West Division. The bottles carry a picture of orange eyeglass frames, signifying his Von's Vision charity that provides eyeglasses to kids.

 

Singer/Song Writer Ed Sheeran has a home in North London that features an underground tunnel to a pub. Entry to the pub is by invitation only.

 

Billionaire owner of the Los Angeles Rams, Stanley Kroenke, has bought a majority interest in Domaine Bonneau du Martray in Burgundy. He already owns Screaming Eagle in Napa Valley.

Australian singer, Olivia Newton-John, makes Koala Blue Wines in her native Australia. Two varieties are offered: Syrah and Chardonnay.

 

Jason Priestley played Brandon Walsh in the 1990's TV show, Beverly Hills 90210 now makes wines at his Black Hills Winery in Canada's Okanagan Valley. His Viognier, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Red Blend range in price from $25 to $40.

 

Former NBA star, Yao Ming, has partnered with Princess Cruises to promote his Yao Family Wine. The luxury cruise line is promoting its holidays to wealthy Chinese. A new cruise from Shanghai to Rome will start running this May.

 

French winemaker Marc Perrin announced that Miraval Winery that he owns in partnership with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie is not for sale despite their coming divorce. He said the estate is continuing to operate for the benefit of the children. The group produce a prize winning rose', two whites, and soon a red. They just released an Extra Virgin Olive Oil that comes in a stoneware bottle for 29 a liter. ($31 U.S.)

 

Actress, Hillary Duff, has introduced her line of wines. The wines are Central Coast Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, and a Red Bland. All are line priced at $13.99.

 

Basketball Hall of Fame player, Isaiah Thomas is importing and selling his own label Champagne. The wine is bottled for Thomas by Cheurlin Champagne. Cheurlin Thomas Black Label Champagne is an Extra Brut and the exclusive Champagne served in the Detroit Pistons luxury suites.

The singer, Pink, has revealed her “dirty little secret.” She has been quietly developing a vineyard and winery in Los Olivos. Pink, whose real name is Alecia Beth Moore, has worked for four years to develop the biodynamic and organic vineyard and just loves working in the fields. Her 25 acres produce Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Grenache and Grenache Blanc, and Sauvignon Blanc. The wines are currently not for sale. The singer has sold more than 60 million albums and will be on tour this summer.

Martha Stewart has started her own online wine company. Selections from California, Washington, France, and Italy are included. Stewart says “Wine has played an important part in ...(her) life. I'm confident that we can teach consumers how to enjoy the right wine at every occasion.” She says all the wines have passed her test for quality and the ability to pair well with food. Prices range from $12.99 to $24.99 per bottle plus shipping with assortment packs of 4 bottles at $66 to 12 packs at $120.

 

Rapper, Tupac Shakur, opened a pop-up restaurant, Powamekka Cafe, on New York's Lower East Side for one weekend to commemorate his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The eatery featured his favorites: meat loaf, gumbo, chicken wings; and signature drinks: Thugz Passion made with Gin, Alize', lime, pomegranate, and Champagne and Ghetto Russian made with Remy Martin, Bailey's, and condensed milk.

 

The Napa Valley home that Margrit Mondavi lived in during her final years was sold by her estate for $4.6 million. It is situated on 10 acres in the Coombsville area. The gated home is 4,064 square feet with 3 bedrooms, 3.5 baths, office, and pool. It has decks with views north to Mt. St. Helena. Mrs. Mondavi lovingly called her home The Ruin. She died last September at the age of 91. The buyers are a San Francisco couple who will use it as a second home.

 

Cliff Richard has lowered the asking price for his Portuguese wine estate from 9.5 million to 6.5 million. He has owned his Adega do Cantor (Cellar of the Singer) winery since the 1990's and produces 50,000 cases a year.

 

Rock star, Sammy Hagar and pop singer, Adam Levine are partners in a new spirit brand called Santo Mezquila that claims to be "the world's first mezquila." (a combination Tequila and Mezcal).

Madonna has lent her name to her father's Ciccone Chardonnay made in the Leelanau Peninsula of Michigan. $30.

 

Mike Ditka, All American football player, Hall of Fame, and coach has left his partnership with Mendocino Wines and is now launching a new line of imports with Terlato Wines.

 

Wine glass maker, Riedel, has teamed with Elton John on a new line of wine glasses with rainbow stripes called Fatto a Mano. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Elton John AIDS Foundation. The Amadeo Double Magnum Rainbow Decanter crowns the collection. Only 50 of this swan shaped decanter were made. Elton John will auction 5 of them later this year for his foundation.

 

When Comedian, Eric Wareheim, first hit success, he went to wine tastings dressed in pink as a joke on Rose'. Then he found he liked the wine. Then he met winemaker, Joel Burt. Now the two men have partnered to make Las Jaras (The Arrows) natural wines. The wines are made with little intervention in the natural process.

 

Lady Gaga put on the halftime show at the Superbowl. Following the show, she announced that she has registered the name “Grigio Girls” for a line of wine. She is currently shopping for a wine property in Sonoma County.

The rock group, Foo Fighters, headlined the BottleRock Napa Valley over Memorial Day weekend. They had a pop-up wine store that sold Foo Fighters Wine, wineglasses, and corkscrews.

Ashville Brewing is releasing a Belgian Style Beer called Bier Lemongrass Tyson in honor of celebrity astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson.

...and finally. Daniel Ricciardo won the Canadian Formula 1 Grand Prix. Sir Patrick Stewart celebrated with him by drinking Moet out of Ricciardo's sweaty boot. Ricciardo said “If the sparkling wine is cold, then it tastes good. If it’s warm then you might get the sweat through it, but the cold taste kills the bad stuff… so it’s delicious.”

John Elway the quarterback, who won two Super Bowl titles with the Denver Broncos, is partners with Napa’s Robert Mondavi, Jr. to make Seven Cellars Elway Reserve Wines.

Stan Kroenke the owner of the Los Angeles Rams owns Screaming Eagle Winery in Oakville and Jonata in Santa Barbara.

John Madden, former Oakland Raiders coach owns Madden Vineyard in Livermore.

Joe Montana, The quarterback who led the San Francisco 49ers to four Super Bowl championships makes Montagia Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa Valley.

Carmen Policy, former president of the San Francisco 49ers owns Casa Piena in Napa Valley.

Drew Bledsoe, from the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills owns Doubleback Winery in Washington.

Singer, Josh Groban, made a wine in partnership with Halleck Vineyards. The proceeds from the sale of “Find Your Light Pinot Noir 2014” go to the Groban Children's Arts Foundation. The wine is being sold winery direct to consumers for $50 per 750ml.

 

Rapper, 50 Cent, has sold his stake in Effen Vodka to Beam/Suntory for $60 million.

 

Sequential Brands Group has opened the Martha Stewart Wine Company. The wines are sold online by the bottle or through a wine club. Prices range from $12.49 to $29.99. The website features video tasting notes and “Martha's Favorites”, wine and food pairings.

Actor Kelsey Grammer, founded Faith American Brewery in upstate New York. His first bottling of Faith American Ale will be released for sale in the near future.

George Lucas has bought an estate in Provence. Lucas' Skywalker Properties made the purchase of Chateau Marqui. The estate has 40 ares of organic vineyards, a 7 acre olive grove, and is surrounded by 200 acres of forest. The chateau was built in the 18th century alongside the vineyards that date to Roman times. Varieties at the state include Syrah, Cabernet, Vermentino, Cinsault, Grenache and Sangiovese. The property joins Lucas' two other wine properties in Nicasio, Marin County and Umbria, Italy.

 

Sir Richard Branson hunkered down in his concrete wine cellar during Hurricane Irma. He posted on his blog: “We are expecting to get the full force of the hurricane in around five hours’ time, when we will retreat to a concrete wine cellar under the Great House. Knowing our wonderful team as I do, I suspect there will be little wine left in the cellar when we all emerge.” Branson’s entire staff camped out in two rooms under his mansion, posting photos of the team playing games and having a “sleepover.” “The strength of this hurricane is unheard of,” Branson added. “The atmosphere is eerie but beautiful.

George Clooney and his wife, Amal, will give $21 million to charity from the proceeds from selling Casamigos Tequila to Diageo. $1 million will go to The Southern Poverty Law Center. $20 million will go to the Clooney Foundation for Justice to be used for educating and housing refugees.

And that's just a portion of the $1.5 billion revenue. Now as his fans are aging, he is building Margaritaville retirement communities.

Retired NBA star, Charles Barkley, has partnered with a California winery to produce Charles Barkley Selections. The wines are CB Vineyards 2014 Red Blend, CB Vineyards 2015 Chardonnay, and CB Vineyards The Analyst 2014 Reserve Red Blend. All proceeds will go to charity.

 

Scott Pruett

Hall of Fame race car driver, Scott Pruett, makes wine from Syrah grapes he grows at his Pruett Vineyard Winery in Auburn. The winery is located in what used to be his garage. Pruett says “I started a garage winery that makes world-class wines.”
